Includes: The bachelor of science in mathematics provides a strong background to the fundamentals of mathematics. There is a large demand for people with strong analytical skills and a broad-based background in the mathematical sciences. The three year Bsc programme will prepare a student to avail many diverse attractive opportunities.
Objectives:
On successful completion of their studies all students should
- have developed problem solving skills.
- have had the opportunity to take options outside their main area of study.
- have covered the core topics of advanced mathematics which the department considers appropriate to their degree programme.
- have learned to apply critical and analytical reasoning and to present logical and concise arguments.
- be able to understand and present sophisticated mathematical arguments and rigorous proofs.
- be able to comprehend high levels of abstraction in the study of pure mathematics.
- be able to apply physical insight and mathematical techniques to the solution of problems in applied mathematics.
- have had the opportunity to enhance their investigative, communication and presentation skills.
- have to apply mathematical concepts and theorems to new situations.
